Which variants this covers
Five generation codes are represented — C4, C5, C6, C7 and C8 — spanning saloons and Avant estates in front-wheel drive and quattro. The code is printed on the door sticker and is the only dependable identifier, because Audi's model years straddle the changeovers. Cars specified with air or adaptive suspension need their own components rather than passive equivalents.
Choosing between the ranges
Lowering hardware dominates here, which is unusual on an executive saloon and worth knowing before you browse. B12 Pro-Kit is the single largest group: Bilstein B8 dampers supplied already paired with Eibach Pro-Kit springs, so damper and spring rates are engineered together instead of assembled hopefully. Eibach Pro-Kit springs alone come next, suited to an A6 whose dampers remain healthy and whose owner wants the arch gap closed modestly. Where the damping has gone, Bilstein B4 restores the original character and Bilstein B6 delivers a firmer reading of the same height — valuable on a heavy Avant that floats when laden. Bilstein B12 is the Bilstein-sprung equivalent kit, B8 belongs only beneath an already-lowered car, and Pro-Street-S, B14 and B16 provide adjustable ride height. A Pro-Tronic damping controller is also listed.
What to check before ordering
Replace per axle, renew bearings and protection kits while access is easy, and have the geometry set with the car at its settled height. Specific to the A6: quattro and front-driven versions arrange the rear axle differently and Avant rear hardware departs from the saloon's, so drivetrain and body both need confirming beside the code.
Common questions for this chassis
Why is Eibach so prominent here? Its spring and kit coverage for the A6 outstrips the individual damper ranges.
Pro-Kit springs or a B12 Pro-Kit? Springs if the dampers survive; the complete package if they are tired.
Where is my generation code? On the door sticker. Model year alone will mislead you.
