Which variants this covers
Four generations are listed, and they are less alike than the shared badge implies — the earliest cars were tall, narrow and sandwich-floored, while the most recent are conventional low hatchbacks. Nothing crosses between them. AMG Line specification brings its own springs and damper tuning, and the chassis code rather than the showroom year is what pins a car down.
Choosing between the ranges
Bilstein B4 leads the page and answers the common case: an ageing A-Class needing the damping it was built with, nothing more. Bilstein B6 firms that same height for an owner who found the car vague when new rather than merely worn now. Tein contributes EnduraPro and EnduraPro Plus, the latter adjustable through sixteen positions. On the lowering side, Eibach Pro-Kit springs are the gentlest route and keep the fitted dampers in service, while B12 Pro-Kit and B12 deliver dampers and springs as one engineered assembly. Eibach Pro-Street-S, Tein Street Advance Z, B14 and B16 all permit height adjustment, and a Pro-Tronic controller is stocked for electronically damped cars.
What to check before ordering
Fit axle by axle, refresh bearings and protection kits alongside, then align. Rear axle design shifted across these generations, from simple trailing arrangements on the early cars to multi-link layouts on later higher-powered versions, so a rear damper quoted for one engine variant may not suit another built the same year. The A-Class trap is generational: a W168 and a W177 share a nameplate and essentially no hardware, and parts listings for the two sit adjacent in search results. Establish the code before committing to anything.
Common questions for this chassis
Will W169 components suit a W176? They will not. Treat each generation as a separate vehicle.
Does AMG Line change the parts? Yes — that specification runs distinct springs and damper tuning.
Gentlest way to lower one? Eibach Pro-Kit springs, assuming the dampers are still serviceable.
