Which variants this covers
Four generations are covered — 1U, 1Z, 5E and NX — in hatchback and estate form, including the vRS variants. The Octavia shares running gear with other Volkswagen Group cars, but the chassis codes differ and so do the part numbers, so match the code rather than assuming from a related model. vRS cars and those with sports chassis use their own listings. Estates frequently differ from hatchbacks at the rear.
Choosing between the ranges
Bilstein B4 is the largest group by a wide margin and the right answer for most Octavias: OE-comparable damping at standard ride height with the original springs retained, restoring the ride a high-mileage car has lost. Bilstein B6 is firmer at that same height and suits a vRS or a car used on poor roads where more body control helps. Bilstein B12 lowers a standard car on shortened dampers with matched springs supplied together. Bilstein B8 is a shortened damper intended only for a car already lowered by roughly 30–40 mm on aftermarket springs — fitted at standard height it rides badly and wears quickly. No Tein ranges are stocked for the Octavia, so the choice here is entirely within the Bilstein lineup.
What to check before ordering
Front and rear are separate listings; fit in axle pairs and align afterwards. Strut support bearings and protection kits are a meaningful share of this page and are worth renewing whenever a damper is replaced. The Octavia caveat is generation overlap: 1Z and 5E cars were sold alongside each other during the changeover, so confirm the code from the VIN rather than the registration year.
Common questions for this chassis
Is Tein available for the Octavia? Not currently — this page is Bilstein only.
Will Golf parts fit? Not reliably. The platforms are related but the chassis codes and part numbers are not the same.
Which range for a tired estate? B4, with new bearings and protection kits.
