Which variants this covers
Three generations are listed — 5N, AD1/AX1 and CT1 — in front-wheel drive and 4MOTION, which take different rear components. Cars ordered with adaptive damping use electronically controlled struts that passive dampers cannot replace directly. For other Volkswagens see Volkswagen suspension, or the Golf page, which shares much of this platform under different chassis codes.
Choosing between the ranges
Bilstein B4 is the largest group and the OE-comparable replacement — standard ride height, original springs retained, factory ride restored. That is usually the right answer on an SUV of this weight. Bilstein B6 is firmer at the same height and helps a loaded or roof-racked Tiguan feel less floaty, at some cost in comfort. Bilstein B12 lowers a standard car on shortened dampers with matched springs supplied together. Eibach extends the lowering options: Pro-Kit springs for a moderate drop on healthy dampers, the Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit pairing B8 dampers with Eibach springs, and Pro-Street-S coilovers for adjustable ride height. On a tall car, bear in mind that lowering costs ground clearance and loading height.
What to check before ordering
Front and rear are separate listings; fit in axle pairs, renew strut bearings and protection kits with them, and align afterwards. The Tiguan caveat is drivetrain and damping option together: 4MOTION cars use a multi-link rear axle where front-wheel-drive cars use a torsion beam, and adaptive-damping cars are different again. Confirm both from the build before ordering.
Common questions for this chassis
Will Golf parts fit? Not reliably. Related platform, different chassis codes and part numbers.
Should I lower a Tiguan? Only if it stays on tarmac — you lose clearance and some load capacity.
B4 or B6 with a roof box? B6. It controls the extra height and weight better.
