Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Shock Absorbers & Suspension

Suspension for the Volkswagen Golf Mk7, 2013–2019, covering chassis codes 5G1, BQ1 and BE1/BE2. Bilstein B4 and B6 cover standard ride height, Bilstein B12 kits lower the car on matched dampers and springs, and B14 and B16 coilovers give adjustable ride height. All parts listed here are cut for the Mk7 platform.

Which variants this covers

The Mk7 ran from 2013 to 2019 under chassis codes 5G1 for the hatch and BQ1 and BE1/BE2 for the estate variants, including GTI and R models. Front-wheel-drive and 4MOTION cars use different rear axles. Cars ordered with DCC adaptive damping take entirely different components from those on passive suspension. For other Golf generations, use Volkswagen Golf suspension.

Choosing between the ranges

Everything listed for the Mk7 is Bilstein. Bilstein B4 is the largest group — the OE-comparable replacement that restores the factory ride at standard height with the original springs retained. Bilstein B6 is the firmer option at the same height and is the better choice for a GTI or R that has gone soft with mileage. To lower the car, Bilstein B12 supplies shortened dampers with matched springs as one package. For adjustable ride height, Bilstein B14 and B16 coilovers are both stocked. Bilstein B8 and the Tein ranges are not currently listed for this chassis, so the choice is between restoring standard damping, fitting a B12 kit, or going to coilovers. Coilovers and matched kits on their own are listed on VW Golf Mk7 coilovers and suspension kits.

What to check before ordering

Front and rear are separate listings and should be fitted in axle pairs, with strut bearings and protection kits renewed at the same time. Align the car afterwards. The Mk7 caveat is DCC: cars ordered with adaptive damping use electronically controlled struts that passive Bilstein dampers cannot replace without removing the system. Check whether your car has DCC before ordering.

Common questions for this chassis

Does my Mk7 have DCC? If the driving-mode selector changes suspension firmness, it does — and passive dampers are not a direct replacement.

Do hatch and estate share rear parts? Not reliably; the estate codes differ. Select your body style.

Will Mk7 parts fit a Mk7.5? The facelift shares the platform, but confirm by build year in the selector.
