Which variants this covers

The B9 generation, chassis code 8W, has been built from 2015 onwards as the 8W2 saloon and the 8W5 Avant. Both front-wheel-drive and quattro cars are covered, and they do not share all components. Cars ordered with S line sports suspension or adaptive damping take their own part numbers. For earlier A4 generations — B5 through B8 — use Audi A4 suspension.

Choosing between the ranges

This chassis is dominated by complete kits rather than individual dampers. Bilstein B12 is the largest group by some margin — shortened dampers supplied with matched lowering springs, which is the most reliable way to lower a B9 without pairing new springs against standard damping. For standard ride height, Bilstein B6 is the firmer choice with tighter body control, and Bilstein B4 is the OE-comparable replacement that returns the car to its factory ride. Bilstein B16 coilovers are stocked for setting ride height directly. Bilstein B8 and the Tein ranges are not currently listed for this chassis, so the practical choice is between restoring standard damping and fitting a B12 kit.

What to check before ordering

Front and rear are separate parts and should be fitted in axle pairs. Protection kits and strut bearings are worth renewing alongside. Have the alignment set afterwards — the B9 is sensitive to it. The chassis-specific caveat here is adaptive damping: cars ordered with Audi's electronically controlled dampers cannot take passive replacements, so confirm which system your car left the factory with before ordering.

Does the B9 share parts with the B8? No. The B9 is a different platform and takes its own struts and mounts.
