Which variants this covers
Three generations are listed — DAW, DA3 and DYB — in hatchback and estate form, including the ST performance variants. Build date decides the generation more reliably than the model year, because the changeovers fall mid-year. ST cars use their own part numbers and should not be matched from a standard listing. For other Ford models see Ford suspension, or the Mondeo page.
Choosing between the ranges
Bilstein B6 is the largest group here, firmer than standard at the original ride height — a good match for a Focus whose damping has gone soft but which the owner does not want lowered, and for ST cars in particular. Bilstein B4 is the OE-comparable alternative that restores the factory ride exactly. Bilstein B12 is unusually well stocked for this car and pairs shortened dampers with matched lowering springs as one package. Tein S.Tech springs lower a car on its existing dampers, and Bilstein B8 is the shortened damper for cars already dropped by roughly 30–40 mm. Tein EnduraPro and EnduraPro Plus cover OE height from the Tein side. B14, B16 and Street Advance Z give adjustable height.
What to check before ordering
Buy front and rear separately, fit in axle pairs and align afterwards. Strut support bearings and protection kits are worth renewing with the dampers. The Focus caveat is the rear: estate and hatchback rear dampers differ, and the Mk1 and Mk2 rear setups are not interchangeable despite looking similar. Check body style as well as generation before ordering.
Common questions for this chassis
Do ST models use different dampers? Yes. Sports suspension has its own part numbers — do not order from a standard listing.
How do I tell Mk2 from Mk3? By build date rather than model year. The vehicle selector resolves it.
Kit or springs to lower it? A B12 kit if the dampers are tired, S.Tech springs if they are not.
