Bilstein B4 Shock Absorbers for 1984-1993 Mercedes Benz 124 — 22-003652
Collection:

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Shock Absorbers & Suspension

Suspension for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class across its generations, in saloon, T-Modell estate, coupé and cabriolet form. Bilstein B4 and B6 cover standard ride height, B12 kits and Tein S.Tech springs lower the car, and B14 and B16 coilovers set it directly. Air suspension modules are listed for Airmatic cars.

Which variants this covers

Saloons, estates, coupés and cabriolets are all included, in rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC, across successive chassis generations. Cars ordered with Airmatic air suspension or adaptive damping take entirely different components from those on passive coil suspension, and the option was widely specified on this model. For other Mercedes models see Mercedes-Benz suspension or the C-Class page.

Choosing between the ranges

Bilstein B4 dominates this page and is the usual answer: OE-comparable damping at standard ride height with the original springs retained, restoring the ride a high-mileage E-Class has lost. Bilstein B6 is the firmer alternative at the same height, better suited to an estate that feels floaty when loaded. Bilstein B8 is a shortened damper and belongs only on a car already lowered by roughly 30–40 mm. To lower a standard car, Bilstein B12 supplies dampers and springs as a matched kit and Tein S.Tech springs work with healthy original dampers. Tein EnduraPro Plus offers 16 adjustable damping levels at standard height, and B14, B16, Street Advance Z and Flex Z give adjustable ride height.

What to check before ordering

Front and rear are separate parts; fit in axle pairs, renew strut bearings and protection kits alongside, and align afterwards. The E-Class caveat is air suspension: a meaningful share of this page is air suspension modules, because Airmatic cars cannot take passive struts at all. Establish which system your car left the factory with before ordering anything.

Common questions for this chassis

How do I tell if my E-Class has Airmatic? Air-sprung cars sit on air bellows rather than coil springs and usually sag on one corner when a bag leaks.

Do estates need different rear parts? Usually yes — T-Modell rear setups, especially self-levelling ones, differ from the saloon.

Will W211 parts fit a W212? No. Select by chassis code.
