Which variants this covers
Five generations are listed — SF, SG, SH, SJ and SK — covering the standard models and the turbocharged XT variants, all all-wheel drive. Ride height matters more on this car than on most: the Forester is a raised estate, and the later generations sit higher again, so dampers are not interchangeable between generations even where the mounting looks similar. XT models run firmer standard damping. See also the Impreza page.
Choosing between the ranges
Bilstein B4 is the largest group and the OE-comparable replacement, restoring the factory ride at standard height with the original springs. Bilstein B6 is firmer at that height and helps a loaded or roof-racked car feel less floaty. On the Tein side, OE-Tech is the closest match to the original damper, EnduraPro is firmer than standard at OE height, and EnduraPro Plus adds 16 adjustable damping levels — useful on a car whose load varies. To lower it, S.Tech springs work with healthy dampers, and Flex Z, Street Advance Z and Street Basis Z coilovers set ride height directly, though dropping a Forester costs ground clearance.
What to check before ordering
Front and rear are separate parts; fit in axle pairs and align afterwards. The Forester caveat is what the car is used for: lowering it with coilovers or springs removes the ground clearance that makes it useful on rough tracks, and a car that regularly carries weight or tows is better served by firmer standard-height damping than by a lower ride. Decide that before choosing a range.
Common questions for this chassis
Should I lower a Forester? Only if it never leaves tarmac. Otherwise keep standard height and firm up the damping instead.
Do XT models take different dampers? Often yes — the turbo cars run firmer standard valving.
What is OE-Tech? Tein's closest equivalent to the original damper, for owners who want standard feel back.
