Which variants this covers
Four generations are listed, covering panel vans, pick-ups and the family-carrying variants, in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive on some Mk3 cars. Payload rating matters more here than on a car: a damper specified for an unladen passenger Caddy will not last under trade use. Confirm the chassis code and the body — van and passenger listings differ. For other Volkswagens see Volkswagen suspension.
Choosing between the ranges
Bilstein B4 dominates this page and is the right answer for most Caddies — OE-comparable damping at standard ride height with the original springs retained, restoring the ride a working van has lost. Bilstein B6 is firmer at the same height and holds the back end better on a van that regularly carries weight, which is the more common complaint on these. Bilstein B8 is a shortened damper intended only for a vehicle already lowered by roughly 30–40 mm. For lowering a standard Caddy, Eibach Pro-Kit springs give a moderate drop and Pro-Street-S coilovers allow ride height to be set directly — though on a load-carrying van, dropping it costs both clearance and suspension travel. No Tein ranges are stocked for the Caddy.
What to check before ordering
Front and rear are separate listings; fit in axle pairs and align afterwards. Renew strut bearings and protection kits with the dampers. The Caddy caveat is load: rear damping is specified against payload, and a van used for trade work needs the heavier rating even if a lighter one physically fits. Check what the vehicle is actually used for, not just what it is.
Common questions for this chassis
Is Tein available for the Caddy? Not currently — this page is Bilstein, with Eibach springs and coilovers joining it.
Can I lower a working van? You can, but you lose travel and clearance. Not advisable if it carries weight.
B4 or B6 for trade use? B6, for better control when loaded.
