Which variants this covers
Four generation codes cover hatchbacks and the GTI versions, all front-driven. The code appears on the door sticker; registration years overlap each transition and will mislead you. GTI cars and anything ordered with sports chassis carry separate listings. Supporting hardware is unusually well represented on this page, which reflects how Polos actually wear out.
Choosing between the ranges
Bearings and protection kits form the largest group here, and that is not an accident — on a small car doing short urban trips the boot, bump stop and strut bearing surrender well ahead of the damper, and the knock owners blame on damping is frequently one of those. For the dampers themselves, Bilstein B4 reinstates the original ride and Bilstein B6 firms it at the same height. Lowering offers real choice: Pro-Kit springs for a measured drop, Sportline for a deeper one, or B12, B12 Pro-Kit and B12 Sportline as complete matched packages. B8 dampers suit cars already lowered. Pro-Street-S, B14 and B16 handle adjustable height, with a Pro-Tronic controller and an Anti-Roll-Kit alongside.
What to check before ordering
Change both corners of an axle, reset the tracking, and inspect the strut bearing while everything is apart. The Polo-specific point is that supporting hardware above: fitting fresh dampers behind a collapsed bump stop or a dry bearing squanders most of the benefit, and on this car those parts are cheap relative to the labour of going back in.
Common questions for this chassis
Knocking over potholes — damper or bearing? On a Polo, check the strut bearing before condemning the damper.
How far do Sportline springs drop it? Further than Pro-Kit. Choose by how low you actually want to sit.
Do GTI models differ? Yes, and so does any car with the sports chassis option.
