Which variants this covers

This page spans four C-Class generations — W202, W203, W204 and W205 — in saloon, estate, coupé and cabriolet form, in both rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC. A damper cut for one generation will not fit another. Cars ordered with sports suspension, adaptive damping or Airmatic differ again from passive cars. For the W205 generation specifically, see C-Class W205 suspension.

Choosing between the ranges

Bilstein B4 is by far the largest group here and the usual answer: OE-comparable damping, standard ride height, original springs retained, factory ride restored. Bilstein B6 is the firmer alternative at the same height, better suited to a heavier saloon or estate that has gone floaty. Tein EnduraPro covers similar ground as an OE-shape damper. To lower the car, Bilstein B12 supplies matched dampers and springs as a kit, while Tein S.Tech springs give a moderate drop on healthy original dampers. For adjustable height, B14, B16, Street Advance Z and Flex Z are listed. An Airmatic module is also stocked for air-sprung cars.

What to check before ordering

Front and rear dampers are separate parts; replace in axle pairs. Renew strut support bearings and protection kits with them. Book an alignment afterwards. The C-Class caveat is the suspension option fitted at build: Airmatic and adaptive-damping cars use entirely different components from passive cars, and 4MATIC and estate variants differ again. Confirm all three — generation, body and suspension type — before ordering.

Common questions for this chassis

Will W204 dampers fit a W205? No. The generations use different struts; select by chassis code.

My car has Airmatic — can I fit conventional dampers? No. Air-sprung cars need air suspension components, not passive struts.

Is B6 worth it over B4? Only if you want firmer control. B4 restores the original ride; B6 changes it.
